1. Tax obligations March-April 2023: Don't lose sight of them!

The beginning of the year not only brings new goals and projects, but also new tax obligations that we must comply with.

In this blog, we want to summarize the tax obligations corresponding to the months of March and April, so that you can comply with them in a timely manner.

2. Tax obligations March 2023

Until March 13, those taxpayers who carry out intra-community trade operations must present the Intrastat statistical declaration corresponding to the month of February 2023. All taxpayers who have exceeded a certain billing threshold (€400.000 in the previous year and in one or both flows) are required to file. All of this, regardless of whether or not commercial exchanges have taken place with other EU countries.

Until March 20, taxpayers must present the declaration of withholdings and income on account corresponding to the month of February 2023. This declaration is mandatory for those who have received income from work, economic activities, prizes and certain capital gains, as well as for those who have received profits derived from shares and participations in collective investment institutions, rental income from urban real estate, movable capital, authorized persons and account balances.

Large companies also have certain additional obligations, such as filing tax returns 111, 115, 117, 123, 124, 126, 128, 216 y 230 corresponding to the month of February 2023.

You must also submit the summary statement of intra-Community transactions corresponding to the month of February 2023 for VAT. This requirement applies to taxpayers who have carried out intra-community operations in February 2023.

Large companies also have the additional obligation to file the declarations corresponding to excise taxes on manufacturing and the excise tax on electricity.

Another important tax obligation is the declaration of operations by registered recipients, tax representatives and authorized receivers corresponding to the month of February 2023. This applies to taxpayers who have received certain products subject to excise taxes.

For those taxpayers who are subject to the excise tax on non-reusable plastic packaging, the self-assessment corresponding to the month of February 2023 must be presented.

Finally, those taxpayers who are subject to the special tax on financial transactions must present the declaration corresponding to the month of February 2023.

3. Tax obligations April 2023

From April 11 to June 30, taxpayers must submit their Income and Equity returns for the 2022 fiscal year. If the result is to be deposited and the payment is desired, the deadline is June 27.

Three very important declarations are presented on April 30:

- Model 720, an informative statement on assets and rights located abroad. This declaration is mandatory for tax residents in Spain who have assets and rights abroad for a value greater than 50.000 euros. Failure to submit this model can lead to very high penalties.

- Model 130, a quarterly declaration of installment payments of personal income tax. This model is mandatory for self-employed workers and self-employed professionals who pay taxes under the simplified or normal direct estimation system.

- Model 714, annual declaration of the Wealth Tax. This tax is levied on the wealth of individuals, and is expected to disappear from 2023.

Complying with tax obligations is essential to avoid problems with the Tax Administration and to keep our personal or business finances in order.

It is essential to be up to date with the dates and deadlines, since the non-presentation or the delay in the presentation of the declarations can lead to sanctions and surcharges.

To avoid problems, it is advisable to have the advice of an accounting and tax professional, who controls tax obligations efficiently.
